ZeroConfig is a WordPress speed plugin with an online optimisation service. The service visits a website only when that site's administrator has installed the plugin and pressed Turn on. It identifies itself with one of these user agents:
| User agent | What it does |
|---|---|
ZeroConfigEdge/1.0 | Fetches public images, CSS and JavaScript files the site's pages use, to deliver optimised copies through our CDN. |
ZeroConfigCheck/1.0 (in a Chrome user agent) | The Safety Check: opens a few public pages in a browser, with and without each optimisation, to make sure nothing breaks. |
ZeroConfigVerify/1.0 | Confirms once that the site belongs to the administrator who turned the plugin on. |
ZeroConfigCron/1.0 | Opens the site's wp-cron.php when its background tasks have not run for two hours, so expired cached pages are cleaned up. |
If you use a firewall or bot protection
Allow these user agents, otherwise the Safety Check reports "blocked" and optimised images cannot be created. They only read public pages and files; they never log in, submit forms or follow links outside the site.
Stopping the visits
Turning the engine off in Settings → ZeroConfig stops all visits. If you see these bots on a site where nobody turned ZeroConfig on, write to hello@zeroconfigwp.com with the site address.
